train races

The end of a long train ride after work ends in a dash to the car for most. Being consistently on the same train over a good period of time has given me a chance to observe and participate in something I can only call “train races”. While some might think that I am insensitive to the varied reasons people may have for their behavior and their reasons for race walking to their cars, I don’t feel I that I am.  I know people want to get home to loved ones, to family, to pick up their kids, and getting stuck in a ling line of cars is a pain in the tail at the end of a long day.

It’s the interaction, or lack of interaction between people that intrigues me. Any outsider watching this would think they had walked into some bizarre extreme suburban sport. There is rude behavior, insensitivity, and just odd groupthink.

I choose to look at it with a little humor…so I’ve given names to some of the rather interesting or just plain rude people who participate in this suburban pseudo sport…once in a while I actually take notice of how ridiculous they look or just how rude they can be…

I am especially intrigued by the group of people who need to get up immediately after the train leaves the last station before ours and stand for 7 minutes to make sure they get off the train first…sad.
