Songs for the train part deux…

July 16, 2008

I wrote a few months back about some songs that seemed appropriate for train rides, commuting etc.

I think that I am going to try to add a few more and ask others to give me their thoughts also. My ride in today made me laugh at two songs that for the life of me I have no idea why I was even listening to. One was “Drum trip” by Rusted Root which when listened to in the cab of the train and watching people’s heads shake from the train movement can be a bit comical.

The other- on the same “When I woke” album is “Rain” which features the unusually talented John Popper from Blues Traveler on Harmonica. This is a great song to leave the train station to because it sounds a little like what I would expect a cattle call would look like as people scramble madly to beat lights and others saunter getting in the train racers way…

any scooter or moped suggestions?

July 16, 2008

So here it goes. My commute to the train is short by most standards. I live less than 3 miles from my train station. I ride my bike to the train pretty often which I like but there is the reality that on some days doing so for me is impractical because I need to wear a suit, or I don’t want to be sweaty, etc.

I have been looking online at Craigslist.com primarily to pick up a scooter or moped. I hope to use it as the primary mode of train transportation and to run a few errands in town if necessary instead of using my car.

Quick details that may help form opinions. I am about 6″ 245lbs. I don’t expect to go further than into town and home, I don’t need the fastest wheels and I don’t want one with biggert than a 50cc engine.

I like the look of the Vespas but have no desire to spend 3-5K on this, I’d actually like to spend $1,000 or less. I seem to think the Honda Metro, Yamaha Zuma, seem to be reliable and some people seem a little off put by the Korean bikes (Kymco). Since I know buck nothing about all of this any thoughts you have would be cool.

Josh Hamilton…good for you

July 16, 2008

Watching the home run derby the other night, I couldn’t help but get slightly teary thinking of the depths this young man has come back from in two and half years. The natural talent on display was something for the average fan to marvel at, but watching his peers just look in awe was another thing.

You could say a lot of things about the guy, you could harp on his addiction, his missed early opportunities, his tattoos, etc. But for me I just have a little hope that this path continues for him.

Good Luck Josh Hamilton, and in the ever present words of my Mom when one of us did something well…Good for you Hamilton, Good for you!
